About Us
About Our Company
Independent Mobility Solutions Inc. was founded in 1990 as a full service home healthcare company. At that time our primary focus was providing a broad spectrum of home medical equipment and services. The company primarily acquired its customers through referrals from healthcare facilities such as rehabilitation centers, assisted living homes, and hospitals. By the mid 90's the company began to focus upon specialty seating and positioning services as well as the power mobility devices typically required by those customers.
Within the last few years our company has become more consumer focused. With significant growth in our elderly population, and tightening of coverage criteria by Medicare and private insurance companies, we felt it was time to do business in a different way. We started with steeply discounted pricing on top quality equipment so more customers can afford the device they need without having to rely on the whims of their insurance company. Our concept was to create a powered mobility dealership much like a car dealership. We have accomplished that, complete with a showroom, repair department, and financing options. For potential customers in the NJ/NY metro area, we are confident you will not find a better price-value combination anywhere. For those out of our area you can buy with confidence, knowing we are a long-established business, not some guy with a Web site drop-shipping products from his house.

Insurance Information
Insurance coverage is a subject that often comes up when purchasing lift chairs, scooters, and power wheelchairs. There are two aspects to the term insurance coverage which are often used interchangeably:
- Does the patient meet the medical necessity criteria developed by their insurance carrier for that item?
- Does the patient pay for the item first and get reimbursed from their insurance company or does the provider bill the insurance company and wait for payment?
What we will do
- I.M.S. will happily help you determine your insurance coverage guidelines and provide you with an honest and objective assessment as to whether you meet those criteria.
- We will help to get the appropriate paperwork necessary to bill your insurance or obtain a prior approval.
- I.M.S. will also submit a claim on your behalf on a non-assigned basis, this means you must first pay I.M.S. for the item and will be reimbursed directly from your insurance company if they choose to cover the item.
- Continue to work your claim until the final hearing.
The main reason for this policy is to hold down cost, helping us:
- To provide pricing at steep discounts off MSRP.
- Carry large inventory in our showroom.
- Allows I.M.S. to provide top quality equipment instead of expensive, lower quality equipment.
Dealing with insurance companies adds cost in a number of ways. Some examples include specially trained and experienced personnel to deal with the paperwork, billing, and collection process, to the delays in payments and inevitable denials.
Almost all medical suppliers, including doctors and hospitals, have customers sign a statement taking responsibility for payment in the event your insurance company denies the service. If you don't have money to buy the item it is doubtful you will have it 90 days later if the claim is denied.
Insurance companies deny claims for more reasons than you can ever guard against. Almost all insurance companies tell you that even a prior authorization is not a guarantee of payment! Almost all suppliers will make you sign a statement saying you are financially responsible for the item if your insurance does not pay. If you do not have the money when the chair is purchased it is doubtful you will have the money 60 to 90 days later. What you will have is a used chair, which is worth a fraction of the purchase price when new.

Specialty Seating and Positioning Services
A professional should evaluate patients with special seating and mobility needs before they choose their powered mobility device. Choosing the correct device takes knowledge of available equipment, an understanding of the disease processes involved, and a feel for the patient's personal situation. Whether you are paying cash or using an insurance benefit, a mistake can be costly. The main goal for any powered mobility device is to maximize the impact that device has on the customer's daily routine. The wrong choice can limit the positive impact your device can make in your life and minimize the return on investment you made.
A home visit is important to determine if there are any access problems. For some patients, a trial seating system might be prudent to help determine the correct components.

He works closely with many of the therapy departments in the area's rehabilitation centers.
Michael is available for professional consultation regarding your wheelchair choice under the following terms and conditions. All charges are credited to the purchase of any scooter or power wheelchair.
Basic Evaluation: $100.00
To begin this process the prospective customer needs to complete our online survey to help provide an overview of their personal situation. The survey can also be printed and mailed to us at our Clifton store. A home visit will follow including the taking of measurements and an in-person consultation is performed. A written recommendation will be provided.
Extended Evaluation: $200.00
The extended evaluation includes everything in the basic evaluation but includes an additional visit to try out the chair identified during the first visit or a seating system similar to the type recommended. The trial chair can be tested throughout the home and tested so you can be assured that access is possible.
